INTRODUCTION

Keeping in mind the current healthcare situation of the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, like rapidly increasing prevalence of non-communicable and communicable infectious diseases, natural and manmade disasters, out of control population growth, advancement in technology and the growing needs of society, require a well-established health care system to overcome these challenges. One of the most vital elements of health care system is Nursing Service. Excellent health care is the backbone of any healthcare system and one can’t even think of an efficient healthcare facility without well trained and well-behaved qualified nurses. In spite of the introduction of latest technologies and erecting huge hospitals, we failed as a nation to strengthen the very backbone of the healthcare system. Very little if any attention was given to this crucial part of the modern medicine and our healthcare system is failing us in spite of the increasing healthcare cost to the nation. For this purpose, we wish to establish a top notch Nursing School by the name of Maqsood College of Nursing (MCN). MCN is a sister concern of Maqsood Medical Complex, a 200 bed tertiary care teaching hospital registered with PMDC for house job of MBBS students. At MCN we feel that the dearth of well-trained qualified nursing professionals has a lot to do with the dilapidated state of our healthcare system and its time to embark upon a training and educational program for allied medical professionals with a special focus on the backbone of modern medicine, the “Nursing”. We believe that well trained and well-behaved nurses, will not only help the government and healthcare managers, to re-vitalize their services and bring smiles on the faces of the ailing society. It will also save money and reduce the growing burden on the tax payers of the province. We are looking forward to establish an institute of medical sciences with a special focus on Nursing, to develop, train and equip graduate level nurses to play their role in getting away with the present and upcoming health care challenges. Our institution under the name of “Maqsood College of Nursing (MCN)” wish to render our services for the betterment of Nurses as there is shortage of graduate Nurses in KP and the rest of the country. There is also a lack of nursing training institutions at higher level and there is no other institute providing services in nursing at graduate level. We want to provide our services in nursing profession by providing quality education. Keeping in view of the current shortage of staff, quality of education in nursing, and also nursing training institutions at graduate level, we would like to take a sincere and serious step to establish an Institute of Nursing, to enhance and improve the health and wellbeing of the people of KP as well as the rest of Pakistan, which can be accomplished through clinical practice and community services. .
